The boutique resort is located in Douro Valley, the breathtaking wine country that is also a UNESCO world heritage site and the world’s oldest regulated wine region.

Casas Vivas is situated in Provesende, one of the oldest villages in Portugal. With its manor homes and stunning views, Provesende was voted the most beautiful wine village amongst the 6 “official” wine villages of the Douro region. Its rich history can be explored through its Roman ruins and includes an ancient Temples of Diana.

The property is surrounded by olive trees within an award-winning ‘terroir.”  Adjacent to the property is the fantastic 5.5 km trekking trail of ‘São Cristovão do Douro,’ which winds through the vineyards with extraordinary views. The walking trail winds down the valley with wonderful vistas and finishes along the Douro River in Pinhão, the Douro valley’s heartbeat and where many award winning wineries are located.

— THE GUARDIAN
Approaching a wine region regularly touted as one of the world’s most picturesque - along a road recently named the world’s best for driving enthusiasts, thanks to its ratio of bends to straights - you suspect you’re in for a treat. But nothing prepares me for just how staggeringly beautiful northern Portugal’s Douro Valley is.

The Sublimated Gold
Miguel Torga in “Diary XII”

The wonder of a landscape that ceases to be by surpassing itself. Go is not a panorama that the eye beholds: it is an excess of nature. Terraces that are steps from titanic men climb the slopes, volumes, colors and modulations that no sculptor, painter or musician can translate, expanded horizons beyond plausible thresholds of vision. The virginal universe, as if it had just been born, and already eternal by its harmony, serenity, by the silence that not even the river dears to break, stealthy hiding behind the hills, sometimes gaping deep down to reflect its own amazement. A geological poem. The absolute beauty.
